L’Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione di Roma Capitale ha lanciato nel mese di ottobre del 2008 un progetto di conoscenza reciproca e di collaborazione culturale con una realtà straordinaria e unica presente nel territorio romano, quella delle Accademie di alcuni paesi stranieri e degli Istituti di Cultura.
L’idea portante del progetto è quella di conoscere l’affascinante e raffinato ambiente culturale di questi luoghi e di avviare progetti culturali comuni con le Accademie e con gli Istituti di Cultura, nel rispetto sia delle diversità sia delle specificità di queste istituzioni.

In October 2008 Rome’s Department of Cultural Affairs (Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali del Comune di Roma) launched a project for reciprocal knowledge and cultural collaboration with one of the city’s most unique sectors, that of the foreign academies and cultural institutes.
The driving idea behind the project was to find out more about the intriguing sophisticated cultural environments characterising these places and to launch joint cultural projects with the academies and culture institutes that respect both the diversity and specificity of these institutions.

A partire dal 21 gennaio 2010, consultando il sito www.culturainternazionale.it è accessibile ogni informazione riguardante le Accademie e gli Istituti di Cultura stranieri presenti a Roma. I navigatori del web possono così venire a conoscenza dei progetti e degli eventi che queste 34 prestigiose Istituzioni realizzeranno nella Capitale in collaborazione o con il Patrocinio dell’Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione di Roma Capitale.
L’iniziativa si inserisce nell’ambito del progetto “Cultura Internazionale a Roma”, lanciato nel mese di ottobre del 2008 e finalizzato a una attiva collaborazione culturale tra l’Assessorato e quegli Enti rappresentativi della cultura straniera che da molti anni operano a Roma.
Per la prima volta viene offerta ad Accademie ed Istituti di Cultura stranieri a Roma l’opportunità comunicare in tempo reale il calendario delle attività, così da informare studiosi, appassionati di lingue e di culture extra-nazionali, cittadini e turisti: un segno fondamentale di apertura al multiculturalismo che fa di Roma un creativo centro di scambio e di relazione.
Hanno sinora aderito al progetto anche alcune Ambasciate e gran parte degli istituti membri dell’Unione Internazionale degli Istituti di Archeologia, Storia e Storia dell’Arte in Roma.
Il sito, in lingua italiana e in lingua inglese, è stato sviluppato su WordPress, una piattaforma gratuita open source (distribuita con licenza GNU, General Public License) che ha il vantaggio di essere di facile utilizzo e di semplificare il lavoro.
Tramite questo strumento, ogni singolo partecipante al progetto può autonomamente inserire contenuti aggiornati sulle proprie attività, entrando nel sito con un account personale. Un apposito staff dell’Assessorato verificherà la conformità delle informazioni, dei link e della formattazione alle linee guida del progetto. La piattaforma scelta consentirà successivamente di sviluppare il sito ampliandone numero dei partecipanti, dei contenuti e dei servizi messi a disposizione degli utenti.
Il sito è attualmente strutturato in 41 pagine, di cui 34 descrittive delle Accademie e degli Istituti, e comprende cinque sezioni: Il Progetto, Accademie e Istituti, Progetti in Comune, Attività e Contatti.
“Con questa iniziativa – ha sostenuto l’assessore alle Politiche Culturali e della Comunicazione Umberto Croppi – l’Amministrazione capitolina si assume il compito di portare avanti un progetto internazionale e di stabilire rapporti sempre più stretti anche con i corrispondenti esteri. L’Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali ha già collaborato attivamente con le realtà straniere che operano a Roma coinvolgendole in vari progetti tra cui: “RomasiLibra” (un happening dell’editoria romana), “FotoGrafia Festival Internazionale di Roma” e il progetto “Calliope” con la Fondazione Musica per Roma. Anche la prossima Festa dell’Architettura, in programma alla Pelanda dell’ex Mattatoio – ha concluso Croppi – vedrà una loro attiva partecipazione”.
Alla conferenza stampa è intervenuto anche il Direttore dell’Academia Belgica e Presidente dell’Unione Internazionale degli Istituti di Archeologia, Storia e Storia dell’Arte in Roma Walter Geerts che ha sottolineato “l’importanza di un sito che offra finalmente l’opportunità alle realtà straniere presenti a Roma di comunicare le proprie iniziative”.
Erano inoltre presenti i Direttori e i rappresentanti dell’Accademie e degli Istituti di Cultura stranieri.
Nel primo giorno di attività del sito, sono stati registrati oltre 600 accessi.

As of 21 January 2010, full details about the foreign Cultural Academies and Institutes present in Rome can be found at www.culturainternazionale.it. It means that internet users can now find out about all the projects and events initiated by these 34 prestigious establishments present in the Italian capital with the collaboration or sponsorship of the City of Rome’s Department of Cultural Policies.
This additional resource comes under the umbrella of the “International Culture in Rome” project launched in 2008 aimed at establishing an on-going cultural collaboration between the City and the various foreign cultural bodies active in Rome for many years.
The foreign cultural Academies and Institutes in Rome will now have the opportunity to provide information about their respective schedule of events in real time, for the benefit of academics, enthusiastic linguists, those eager to learn more about other cultures, local residents and tourists alike. It is also an important symbol of Rome’s willingness to be open to the concept of multi-culturism and underlines the fact that it is a centre for creative exchanges and relationships. To date, several Embassies and most of the Archaeology, History and History of Art Institutes that are members of the International Union have also chosen to take part in this project too.
The web site, written in both Italian and English, has been developed using free software: Word Press, an open source blog publication application (distributed under a GNU General Public License) which has the advantage of being easy to use and therefore makes the task of keeping it updated much simpler.
Thanks to this tool, each and every project participant can access the site through their respective individual accounts, and a member of staff from the City’s Cultural Policies Department will verify that all information, links and style comply with the project’s guidelines. Choosing this particular application also means that the website can be further developed by increasing the number of participating bodies and its content as well as the facilities available to users.
At the moment, the site boasts 41 pages, 34 of which describe the participating Academies and Institutes and it is divided into five sections: the Project, Academies and Institutes, Shared Projects, Activities and Contacts.
“With this initiative,” declared Umberto Croppi, head of Rome’s Department of Cultural and Communications Policies, “the City of Rome has shown its commitment to engage in an International project and its desire to establish an ever-closer relationship with its foreign counterparts. The Department of Cultural Policies has already been actively involved with Rome’s foreign institute in collaborative projects that include “RomasiLibra” (an event that revolved around Rome-based publishers), Rome’s “International Festival of Photography”, as well as the “Calliope” project in which Rome’s Foundation for Music also took part. The next “Festival of Architecture”, scheduled to take place in what was the skinning room of the old slaughterhouse,” Mr. Croppi concluded, “will also be a collaborative event”.
Walter Geerts, the Director of the Belgian Academy and the President of the International Union of Archaeology, History and History of Art Institutes in Rome also took part in the press conference and he underlined “the importance of a website that finally offers all foreign institutes present in Rome with an opportunity to diffuse details of their respective initiatives.”
Other Directors and representatives from the various foreign Cultural Academies and Institutes were also present.
On the first day that the website went live, it registered 600 clicks.
